“I wait [patiently] for the Lord, my soul [expectantly] waits, And in His word do I hope. Psalms 130:5 AMP
How do you wait? Is it with an impatient and anxious spirt or is it with peace knowing that the Lord sees the whole picture and you can’t. The same God who spoke all things into existence, and the God, for whom nothing is hard, can surely handle any and everything that concerns us.
I’ve never been good at waiting, and it has been a journey for me to get to a place of being relatively content while I wait. It did not come through some sort of a magic trick or through a special anointing; it comes through constant communion with God and redirection of my heart from the problem to the hope I have in Jesus. So much so that even if He doesn’t give me what I’m waiting on, I know He knows what’s best for me.
As I write this blog, I’m in a waiting season. To be honest, sometimes I want to give up. I’m tempted to throw in the towel on God’s promises. Sometimes my soul is full of despair because I just can’t see how this will all turn out for the good. But when I feel this way now, I know to turn to the word for strength and encouragement and I speak these truths over myself.
Here are some scriptures that help me to keep going when it’s hard:
“But those that wait upon the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope in Him] Will gain new strength and renew their power; They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun]; They will run and not become weary, The will walk and not grow tired.” Isaiah 40:31 AMP
“For the vision is for a future time. It describes the end, and it will be fulfilled. If it seems slow in coming, wait patiently, for it will surely take place. It will not be delayed.” Habakkuk 2:3 NLT
And lastly, “Nevertheless, do not let this one fact escape your notice, beloved, that with the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years is like one day.” 2 Peter 3:8 AMP
If you are in a season of waiting, be encouraged. God has not forgotten you. Whatever He promised will be brought to pass. Actually, it’s in the waiting that we draw nearer to the Lord. When we have nowhere to turn, He has us just where He wants us. I’ve grown and matured in my faith during this season of my life; in ways that I know I wouldn’t have if I didn’t have to wait.
When we change our perspective of waiting from dread to a faith building activity, we realize that waiting is necessary for our spiritual growth. We have no choice but to stay in constant communion with the Lord, and to rely on Him for our next step. We desperately hold on to His word for comfort which in turn helps us know how to comfort and encourage others who are experiencing the same season.
I know God is using this waiting season as a season of preparation for the next level He has purposed for our lives; so, with expectancy, we will, wait well.
