James calls us on the carpet and hammers the nails in hard. He tells us that our words are useless when our actions don’t back them up. The phrase, “people don’t care what you know, until they know that you care” is the perfect illustration here. James tells us that if someone is hungry and you walk up and say, I’ll pray for you and leave them there hungry, what good have you done? Have you been the hands and feet of Christ to them? or have you been the essence of all that drives them away from God? Have you extended a hand like Jesus did when He quieted hungry stomachs, so their soul could hear His words?
We are all hurting. Some of us are hurting worse than we have ever hurt in our lives, others are walking down the path and are beginning to see the light and the provision of God through the trial, and for some the hurt may be yet to come, but regardless of our circumstances, we are to do all that we can do for others.
If we want people to know the love of God, love others. If we want people to experience the generosity of God, be generous with others. Jesus says, if you love me, then feed my sheep (John21:17) Taking care of those less fortunate than us is extremely important to God. It’s making our walk match our talk.
Find someone you can bless today. Find someone who is in need, maybe they need clothes, food, maybe a kind word, or a smile, maybe just to feel noticed….
