Trust is a foundational word.
Without trust every other emotion or feeling becomes conditional. For example, if we love someone one but don’t trust them then every time they do something we find questionable, we resend the love, the forgiveness, intimacy…. you fill in the blank. Our trust is foundational for a relationship to be as intimate as God created it to be. The REAL deal.
I asked the question in week 6 of Choices,”Is it easier for you to trust in the big things or the small things?” For me that was an easy question, it was the big things, it’s the small things that I struggle with.
This morning I visited a ladies bible study group that was working on week 6 -Trust of CHOICES. One of the ladies said, “I know I can trust in the big things because there is really nothing I can do about the situation when it’s BIG.” Another lady responded in agreement, speaking of the peace that her and her family have felt following a devastating tragedy in their family. This profound statement(s) kept my thoughts swirling all day. I have heard over and over the overwhelming sense of peace that families have felt during times of loss and grief and tragedy.
So why is that?
Why is that we can feel this overwhelming sense of peace in the darkest times of our life but we struggle to find it in the details of our everyday?
Why can’t we live our daily lives in the light of God’s peace that passes all understanding?
Why do we so often have to wait for the pain in our lives to point us there?
I believe it’s the exact reason the sweet lady offered today. When we hit the hardest times we realize our lives are in God’s hands and we can trust Him with our yesterday and our tomorrow. The struggle for so many of us is trusting Him in our TODAY. This is why so many people are in and out of Doctor’s office with stress related problems, why so many of us come home weary and exhausted of “making things work” all day. We aren’t surrendering our lives to God, we are trying to control the circumstances and why? The answer lies in the level of trust.
We can trust Him. PERIOD. He is trustworthy.
I have experienced the peace that comes with knowing God’s got you in the midst of tragedy but I so desperately want to trust enough to have that peace in my daily life as well. Lord, may we choose to trust you in every part of our life. May we trust in our big things, little things, yesterday, tomorrow AND TODAY. Thank you for being trustworthy even when we are not. Today, I am choosing to trust you, help me to choose to trust you tomorrow too.
