Valentines Day for us began and ended with great adventures. I decided to surprise Olivia and her friend and take them to the Circus at Phillips Arena. We left early so we could go to the pre-show and go on the floor. We arrived at the parking deck and gathered our stuff. I load down my purse with my keys, tickets, and carefully set it in the driver’s seat. I proceeded to get out and put my coat on as the girls did the same. The wind is swirling through the deck and as soon as I stepped away from the car, the wind CLOSES the door! As I scream, no! no! no! all the doors shut tight – LOCKED! Thank goodness Olivia’s friend had her cell phone so I called my husband and then the roadside assistance. As we stand in the open stairwell waiting for a call back from the car service, – which never came until I called back 20 minutes later for them to tell me it would be 1 hour – we were frozen. My precious self-less husband said I’m bringing you the keys, go find a warm place. So we went to Philips – I asked the ticket salesman if there was anyway to get new tickets or at least get the girls in the warmth. He offered us tickets to the next show and upgraded them to the floor! He didn’t want us to miss any of it, seeing it was now almost half through the show.
So we waited on our knight and shining armor as he came with a new key! We now had 3 hours to fill so we took a CNN studio tour which is something I have always wanted to do, and then we were able to go to the pre-show and then to our fabulous seats! It was a day that could have been filled with frustration and anger and bad attitudes but choices were made to make it great, to find the joys of new adventures and the joy of being together.
So many things happen in our daily lives and finding the little joys in the midst of interruptions are what make the best memories. I am so thankful for my amazing family and friends who choose to make memories instead of focusing on their feelings! Happy Valentines Day!
