His banner over me… by Courtney Phillips
There are a lot of things I absolutely love.
I have a very real love for coffee, fall, the smell of paint, sweaters, the warmth of the sun, the very cold chill of the snow, and I love reading. I love getting lost in books, and I love that time slows down when I become captivated by a really good story.
However, when I think of the terms “real love”, I think of how my husband loves me. And that love looks completely different than how I feel about the above sentiments I listed. I can explain:
- My husband loves me when I wake up and barely say two words to him, but grunt like a caveman, until he hands me my coffee
- My husband loves me even when I give him a list of things to do and expect him to complete them all in one day, even when I cannot get my list done in one complete day
- My husband has loved me through my sickness, and been there with me in my sickness, even though I cannot say that I can sit with him through his sickness…. If you know what I’m saying…
- My husband loves me even when I whine about how hard my life is, all the while he works diligently to make my life not hard at all
Real love to me is when someone uses grace with you over and over and over again, and looks at you through the lens of Jesus, and constantly pursues who you will one day when you reach eternity. It’s such a sweet real love that my husband displays with me, that allows me to understand the tangible love my God has for me. And my husband’s love isn’t even a comparison to how much my God loves me! My hope is that you continue to preach the gospel to yourself and never get over the real love our Father had for us on that cross, and the real love He continues to pour out before us as we walk this journey of life. It’s a simple reminder about love, but there are some things that are worth repeating.
