I remember as child we would have to play relay races in PE. The coaches would line us up and then pick team captains. The captains would then take turns picking their teams from the line up of all the other students. With each pick I could feel my heartbeat louder and louder. Would I be chosen this round? Would I be the last pick? Would the team captain want me or just have to take me?
This was such an awful feeling and after years of this, I began to convince myself that I would always the one that “was left to take”.
I am not sure why we struggle to rest in the knowledge and the Truth that God picked us! We are chosen! We are neither the leftover nor the last one that He must pick.
Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:4 that “He chose us before the creation of the world, to be blameless and holy in His sight.” We are His chosen people. He knew each of us and chose each of us before the foundations of the world were put into place. He loved us enough to give us the choice to pick our “team”. It is up to us to choose Him.
Maybe God is more like the line of students than the team captain. Maybe He is the one who is standing there hoping we will pick Him. He already knows what team He wants us on, He has already picked us, He is just waiting for us to pick Him.
I don’t know about you but I desperately want to be on the winning team, the team whose captain desperately wants me.
