When the Red Bird Came Calling…
I am sitting today with my Mom at Southwest Christian Care while I wait for her to make her way to heaven. There is a clear double glass door that allows us to see outside to the trees and the sky, but there is one special red bird that comes and seems to touch our souls. He arrived again today. He has come each day for two weeks. And as on every day, he sweetly sings outside Mom’s window, walks back and forth on the banister, and pecks on the window. The beauty of God’s creation brings yet another reminder that He is with us always and that He is with my mom. There is a peace that permeates throughout God’s creation, the reminder of His daily presence and provision and God’s sovereignty over our first and last breathe. The reminder that “to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (2 Cor.5:8) as she awaits His calling. The red bird is representing and reminding us of that today.
We don’t know a lot about death and how we transition to be with our Heavenly Father, but I know the Lord is the One who comforts us during this time. (2 Cor. 1:4) I rest in that Truth and I know my Mom does as well.
There’s an old saying, “Cardinals appear when angels are near.” Whether this is true or not I don’t know, but this beautiful red bird is allowing me to see the hand of God as I sit, wait and reflect on my whole life as it plays through my mind. As I wait, I get such comfort as I thank my God for His many blessings in my life, for giving mea mom who loved me like no one else could, and a loving Daddy whom I believe God is using even now. Run Mom. Run into the arms of Jesus and Daddy – they are waiting.
Corinthians 1:3-7 says, “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God. For just as we share abundantly in the sufferings of Christ, so also our comfort abounds through Christ. If we are distressed, it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which produces in you patient endurances of the same sufferings we suffer. And our hope for you is firm, because we know that just as you share in our sufferings, so also you share in our comfort.”
