If you live in Georgia, you know the phrase, “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes.” It’s true. Georgia weather will give you whiplash with its quick changes. That’s how I found myself mumbling under my breath as I ran around my yard this evening throwing sheets over my potted flowers and budding hydrangeas. Last week’s beautiful spring weather has deteriorated into a freeze warning night. Not wanting my hard work and careful pruning to go to waste, I tried to control the situation to get the outcome I wanted.
I couldn’t help but think of God’s providence as I tried to protect His beautiful creations. We need to approach life like the plants I worked so hard to protect. We need to rest in knowing God is in control. So many times, when we are scared, we worry that God won’t protect us…that He isn’t there beside us during our battles. We allow our minds to run down rabbit holes and cross bridges that may never come. Instead, we need to fall to our knees and petition the ONE who can change our circumstances.
What does this have to do with nature? Matthew 6: 26-33 says,
“Look at the birds of the air, they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to his life? Consider the lilies of the filed, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: and yet I say unto you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.”
If God cares enough about the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, how much more does He care for you, His beloved child.
It is so easy for us to be filled with fear and anxiety when we are facing a valley. But remember God is for you. He is with you. And all you must do is call upon Him and He will walk you through your journey! A verse I cling to often is Psalm 91:4:
“He will cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you will find refuge; His faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.”
Just as I covered my Hydrangeas, God will cover us! All we have to do is turn to Him!
